“SCIENTIST in TRANSIT”<\/strong><\/strong> (J\u00f6rg)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. J\u00f6rg Baumann passed away on January 28, 2025 at the age of 58 after one year of very serious illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With him, we have lost an extraordinary scientist, a passionate biologist and a wonderful person. J\u00f6rg was a scientist of conviction and passion, characterized by inexhaustible curiosity, great mental clarity and deep integrity. He always remained true to himself and his values: sincere, honest, fair and reliable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His scientific work was internationally recognised. For decades, he has studied infection biology, molecular biology and research of pathogen-host-interactions and zoonoses: His ideas broke new ground. Together, we lived and advanced science at the highest level. J\u00f6rg was not only one of the best scientists in his field, but also a person with a big heart, a fine sense of humor and a rare gift for combining knowledge, warmth and attitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone who met him remembers his radiant smile, his devotion, his sharp mind and his human greatness. He has inspired, promoted and guided many \u2013 both scientifically and personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, J\u00f6rg was the center of my life, my husband, my closest confidant, my partner in love and science over 28 years together. His love, his personality and his life’s work remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 28, 2025 at 2:35 a.m., our common path came to an end. He went “into the light”, so he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I continue on our way. I promised him that.<\/p>\n\n\n

Dr. Sabine Breun and Dr. Joerg Baumann, both Ph.D.s, virologists, immunologists, molecular biologists and founders of SAJO. Both are specialized in infectious diseases. Since the 90s, Dr. Baumann has been working on zoonoses and how pathogens overcome the species barrier. Since 2000, Dr. Breun works on the interaction of viruses with the immune system. Both work as team. SAJO enables new antivirals – antivirals of the next generation to fight pandemics.
During their scientific careers, both performed scientific work for 5 years at the National Cancer Institute in a US elite program on competitive US scholarships.<\/em> Dr. Breun moves on with SAJO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
