A life well lived – a tribute to Jörg
I got to know Jörg through Sabine Breun, with whom I studied biology in Munich. I didn’t get to know Jörg until years later in Leipzig, when I visited both of them at the Fraunhofer Institute.
It was this first impression that made me realize that two people work together, and that they were made for each other. The emotional and scientific connection was reflected in their environment: clear and tidy laboratories, employees who were focused on their work and yet enjoyed their work – impressions that I was rarely allowed to experience in this profession. Cooperation and togetherness was always reflected by the Sabine/Jörg-unit: two friendly and committed people who lived and worked for their research and yet remained exactly that: people. I still have the wedding picture of them, which makes me think with joy to this day: yes, that fits!

In recent years, I have often had the pleasure of working with Jörg. And I can say that it was always a pleasure. Especially the transfer of the knowledge that this couple had built up over the last decades was fascinating and at the same time practicably and useful. Jörg was a man who could not only endure great people, but sought them out – and thus had an equally great partner at his side.

The pain over his illness and his much too early death is deep-seated. I know how much he will be missed here. May his spirit and humanity be an inspiration to all of us for a long time to come.
